Martin O Neill.....................love to see it.Only man that could take us to the world cup finals in my eyes.He would do it for pride and obviously not the money and if he does rather than take charge of some mid table English premier club if successfull he would be almost guaranteed the Man Utd job when Fergie retires.Would be perfect timing for the former Celtic and Villa man to unite our country and stop talent being poached by the Republic to and everyone in football move forward..GAWA

I know it doesnt look likely but just who i would love to see take over and he was mentioned for the Man Utd hotseat in the past.Could you imagine if he got N.Ireland ticking again and to the world cup finals. He would easily be top of the pecking order for Fergies job if he done than.Be less hours and he would be at home with his family.Bet his name gets a mention or 4 in the media for it.Fingers crossed :-) Would you not like to see him give it a go?....

Course it would be a step back. There awfull at the min.But just saying he would get far more publicity taking over Northern Ireland and turning them around than taking the seat at some mid table English club.If he wants to be a candidate for Fergies job when he retires and lets face it who wouldnt i think him taking the role till the world cup finals could be a smart move.He has to pull of something special to get that Utd job and winning the carling cup with say Sunderland in 2yrs wouldnt be enough.Taking the GAWA to the world cup finals certainly might be :-)Plus he would be a great ambassador to bring this country together and the timing would be perfect and hopefully take away the sectarianism that is mostly out of Windsor park anyway :-) fingers crossed..

Martin oneil would be an amazing appointment but I can't see it available at 14s with skybet.
Dowie has thrown his name into the ring and he is up there with Magilton as the bookies early favourites.

Well then,if thats the case we will see who exactly sees it as an honour.. if i was a betting man, my money would be going on a 3rd rate manager, who cant get a job anywhere else.. Hold off for a few weeks and youse could get lennon

It doesn't matter who gets the job, there isn't a manager in world football who could take this current squad of players to the world cup finals.

I would also love to see Martin O'Neil appointed.
A few points I would like to make. Its not a question of stepping back. I actually think it might suit O'Neil at this time of his carear. He is coming 60 next March. So I think managing a top Premier League team is past him. So a 4 year stint with Norn Iron might just give him an interest and earn some easy cash.
I do however think he has enough influence and respect within the Premier league to get players to play for Northern Ireland and with that, I have no doubt it would improve the side.
He is also a very good tactical manager and would improve the current squad, however I do agree that they are way of major finals.
Dowie and Magilton would be popular appointments but the IFA owe it to themselves to get the best possible candidate at all costs.

good post bremner and agree with most of it.
We are presently a long way of qualifying for anything but a manager who could get players like lafferty, evans, brunt to commit properly to NI is essential. We need a manager who can get players wanting to play again and stop them from picking and choosing what games they turn up for. Oneil would be that man but maybe it is overly ambitious, didnt think he was anywhere near 60 shocked at that so maybe its a possibility.

I wouldn't let Ian Dowie manage the victory shield team, think he got lucky 1 season with Crystal Palace, and the fact he hasn't managed in a few seasons speaks volumes.
I'd say Magilton is the man for the job

I just can't see Martin O'Neil being interested in the job but time will tell.
Surely the IFA will chance their arm with an approach.

I think they have no choice but to go after the top guy....O'Neil in limbo at present, why wouldnt he take it.....he did play 64 times for Norn Iron in a 13 year International career so he was a committed Norn Iron player.

Load's of reasons..... Wages for one, the next big Prem job that becomes available he will prob be favourite for it, he enjoys day to day management of a club. Also no disrespect but the team is s**t with poor players ;D

Wages yes may be an issue, but he has been out of the prem for a while now so why has he not taken a job, what jobis he wanting. I dont think he has the time now for day to day management so it may just maybe suit him.
Time will tell for the record i dont think we will get him but we can live in hope. I just hope if we dont have everything out in public n it becomes embarrassing with two or three managers turning us down n the new man knowing he wasnt first choice. I have no faith in the IFA to carry out anything professionally.
First job for whoever is the new manager is to convince hughes to give him one more campaign.

Also no disrespect but the team is s**t with poor players ;D f**k sake pele....wouldnt say they were that good... ;D ;D To be fair they have a few decent premiership players. But hey the 82 and 86 teams were not great on paper, but they played great as a team....think O'Neil could do that. Money not a concern for O'Neil

Money not a concern for O'Neil Yeah i know there are some good players in the squad but does Brunt ever play for N Ireland the way he plays for WB, i have't seen it. I think someone already covered it in a post, players would want to play for O'Neil and instead of faking an injury would actually turn and give their all. O'Neill is shorter in the betting to be the next ROI gaffer than NI so that tell's it own story, as they always say the bookies are never far away.

Im not trying to defend Worthington here cause in glad he's gone, but as somebody else said, it doesn't matter who is in charge of N.I. Unless the standard of players here increases big time, then it's could be decades before we are competing in major competitions again. Compare the welsh team compared to ours, Henessay, Williams, Collins, Bale, Allen, Bellamy, Ramsey, Morrison - all premiership regulars. Were still playing Warren Feeney for f**k sake!
