On your old thread about Gary Templeton , i was playing for michelin when he got sent off against Glencloy after him and some fella exchanged a punch or two in the middle of the pitch . I recall some sectarian abuse on that night as well from a few of your players against him. Strange considering he used to play for Glencloy is it not?

I think the title of this topic sums it up in one - 'OLD THREAD' i.e. old news, all in the past

I dont know the technical term for it to be honest but i think it has something to do with Garlic Games and not a lot to do with football so im rather confused as to why they were being sported at the match that night .Methinks there may have been a little malice in the air? Who was the fella that judased big Gaz with the bitch slap to the back of the head then ran away ?

A lot of Carnlough/Glencloy players and followers also play hurling for Shane O'Neills. It is not unusual to see hurley sticks at Stoneyhill. It could have been a training night but, as I say it is not unusual for kids to play hurling at the side of the pitch. I don't recall the game in question but big Gary upset a lot of people at Glencloy when he signed for Carnlough United. As for sectarian abuse, I cannot comment as I don't remember the game. I have heard the odd sectarian comment over the years but can also say that Carnlough teams have probably suffered more sectarian abuse at many grounds than any other teams in the league. I don't believe that there was any malice in carrying hurley sticks in the same way that no malice is shown to the Swifts or United when they are welcomed by loyalist bands on lovely summer evenings at Wakehurst.

think stoneyhillsheep sums it up in one there.
Children/adults carrying hurling sticks for a hit about is a common sight in many North Antrim villages where gaelic games is played, whether it be in the street/park/at a match etc. To suggest there was another reason for their prescence is just plain daft.

the item i assumme you are refering to is known as an 'camán'. so what? only slaggin mate, just intimidating sometimes, but not to worry. as stoneyhill says, rounds that time of the year, they'res always a pile of ones up with hurly sticks whackin the ball about.

youngsters carryin hurlys is only intimidating to those who have a problem with one of the national sports of ireland. bigots i think is there term. we play carnlough teams often enough and have no problem with the kids havin hurlys.
as for intimidating, well havin to organise a bus to go to away games to avoid players gettin there cars attacked for a game of football is intimidating. or as the SHS stated the colourful musical nites in wakehurst etc.
as for the bitch slappin, well dont that happen in most games, hasnt happened us a lot but sure it happens.
i think this thread was started by someone with a big chip on there shoulder.
need salt and vinegar?
anyway carlnlough people are all big huers anyway, isnt that rite SHS BHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
lol :-)

I wasn't there and I'm not a player for either side, but from a neutral side of things i wouldn't be too surprised if during a punch up the odd word would be said. Its the way at times in Northern Ireland. Where in an argument you want to insult your opponent the most you can, and if you are fighting a person you are going to say sectarian things even if you yourself are not heavily sectarian yourself. A large percentage of catholics or Protestants will say this even if they are not actually against the other side heavily. But the way things are in Northern Ireland it is always something that can creep up, and always will.
Football is something that is meant to be seen as a universal sport, that players from all races, religions, and nationalities can play under the same badge and club.

Imagine bringing that sh1te up out of the blue ffs!!!
If teams from Carnlough decided to all of a sudden post all the incidents where they have come under sectarian intimidation there would be a massive thread for it!!
If that's the sort of threads you want to start on this forum, it's not the place for ye!! Try BEBO, it usually houses the bigots pretty well!!!!
