Side we had out should still have won IMO. 2a is the highest league on paper, yeah.

On paper 2a is the highest but in my eyes Belfast and district and mid ulster teams are the 1s to worry about.

I didnt think any of the mid-ulster teams played in the Junior shield? 2A would definately be the highest standard 'on paper' but cumain from the belfast and district league would be a decent team, other than that...that league has gone to the dogs with most of the so-called big names away to the amateur league, ardoyne being the most recent. Woodvale who are now 2A won last years Junior Cup and Kelvin, also 2A won last years junior shield so id say there's a good chance a team from that division could contest the final......i genuinely think Carniny will go close this year, but no matter how good a team is, home draws definitely help along the way.

I cant comment on mid ulster, i havent a clue what teams play in it.

I dont know if it would be easier pele as i do think you need abit of luck along the way in them competitions. IMO the junior cup has a stronger panel of teams entering because basically every top junior league in the country has participants , i.e. windmill stars and bessbrook (carnbane), hill street (mid-ulster), etc, etc, who are all previous winners or runners-up and they dont enter the shield as they are illegible as the shield is run by the county antrim organisation. Woodvale have put their second team into the shield this year whereas the first team are competing in the junior cup. The thing with playing in the shield is that if you draw a second's team, you dont know who you will be up against...carniny were put out by newington YC seconds last year i think so like i said, i really think you need abit of luck no matter how good you are. No reason why a top BSML team can't go far.

Hill street st Mary's tullygally to name a few teams who have done well in recent years. agreed, CSP will be gone too once they get the facilities. belfast and district is teams who havent the facilities to get into the amateur league, mate of mine plays for Tollymore Swifts, he says its just a kicking match every week, they rarely even get an official ref. Hillstreet are a good side and win their league most seasons they would go intermediate if they had the facilities. they would definitely be the best of the midulster teams eligible for the junior comps. I played against them last season and although they are a good side i think carniny would beat them.
Most of the better midulster teams are intermediate so cant enter and its mostly reserve teams in it. The reds play my old teams seconds on the 29th be interesting to see how it goes.

Why i asked was because with hearing the bigger clubs have went intermediate level i thought that ruled them out of Junior shield/cup. I never actually took much interest in junior football outside of Ballymena.

Going intermediate is going into the likes of 1c which is when you need a fence around the pitch etc like Crumin Star and Imaculata have done in the last few years, doing this rules you out of the Junior cup/sheild and into the intermediate cup border cup and irish cup etc.
When at Wakehurst 2A was a tough tough league as all the teams were very srongbase but didnt have the facilites i,e Malachians, Newington YC, Albert Foundry etc and ourselves but when when we eventually did get the facilties i.e getting Smithfeild. We won 2A then we walked 1B as it was then going unbeaten in the league all season. Crumlin Star done it last year as well walking 1C and had the league wrapped up by Feb.

Yip crumlin star have done very well for themselves since stepping up to intermediate level. Joe Gormley played for them last year (now cliftonville) so it goes to show what a good team they have. I think they have a 100 percent start to 1B this year already as to have Immaculata in 1C and both are into the 2nd round of the Irish Cup...and to think carniny put crumlin star out of the junior cup 2 years back and with all the hammerings the mac gave many a team carniny ran them close to a 1-0 defeat in the junior cup semi that same year.

beat 2-0 by these boys, missing paul ,lee and cyril and only had 2 subs so we were always up against it.
they went 1 up, decent enough outfit, def not as good as carniny/homers. we never really looked like scoring and were not great at all. 15 mins to go we had used our 2 subs and mul went down badly and broke his color bone so we played last 15 min with 10 men and had to push for equalizer but they caught us on break with 2mins left.
kircubbin good bunch and deserved the win
gutted because they were def there for the taking and had we full team we would have beat them imo but not to be
