Enkalon FC manager Davy McDowell has asked me to put this statement on-line.
"I have been manager of Enkalon FC for the last 12 years and in all this time i have never refused to put a match off for any team.
Your correct that All Saints put a match off for Enkalon last year. i have also put match's off for All Saints before and we have always respected each others clubs.
On Friday night at 8 o'clock Stephen Wilson rang me saying that All Saints were angry that we wouldn't put the match off. This came as a shock to myself so I rang Colin McKnight (secretary) who told me that he had not been contacted by anyone from All Saints. I then rang Leo Hegarty who told me he was talking to Timmy Connelly, who told him the match was on, which I'm sure Timmy can confirm. It is my decision to call any of our matches off and Colin and Leo would not call a match off without asking me first. I took it the match was still on as no one had phoned from All Saints.
On Saturday morning I made a point of speaking to your manager Dessie Lennon to ask about the situation. He told me he had wanted the match to be played all week but on Friday night tried to get the match off. He said All Saints had tried to contact Colin McKnight on Friday night but could not get in contact with him. At this point All Saints decided to go ahead with the match, I told him that if he had contacted me through Brian Montgomery I would've had no problem in calling the match off. He thanked me and said that because they couldn't contact Colin on Friday night they would play the match. At no point was there any ill feeling between ourselves.
As I state again if I had been called and told All Saints wanted the match called off I would have called it off.
I hope this clears up the matter as I have always got on well with All Saints and found them a well run and very sporting club and have high regard for them.
The match was played in a hard but sporting manner.
I wish All Saints best of luck for the rest of the season.
David McDowell.
P.S. To all the people who were judging Enkalon before the facts were on the table an apology would be nice as I feel my team have been fully vindicated."
