Leading Stout Guinness have contacted the AMCFF about organising a day to boost their sales and celebrate the wonder that is Arthur McClean. Apparenty way back in the early 1900's Guinness, then a new firm in local circles trying to make it big, were delivering their first batch of stout when the horse that was trailing it along past the Moat Road died and the delivery man stuck and about to miss their first big sale to a man called Enda on Ballymena's William Street. Arthur McClean heard the man's plea's for help and hooked the container conatining the contents of contained Guinness to the back of his brand new Ford Sierra and trailed it to the Slemish Bar, saving Guinness and making it is what it is today.
They want to now recognise the man who put them on the map by holding "Arthur Guinness Day" on the 23rd.
There will be a gathering at the Moat Hill where each person brings a can of Guinness and drinks it while bending over in the opposite direction of the Great McClean. Apparently Arthur loves paople to bow when they meet him but hates them looking at him so the only alternative is for the to turn round and bow the other way. He likes it as he always has a smile on his face when they turn round again.
So, get to the Moat with a thing of Guinness to celebrate the Kaiser.
