Since England did not qualify ( ;D ;D) for Euro 2008, whats your opinion, should he be kept as England Manager or dumped, and if he is dumped, who would be a good replacement!

Your right, just checked the BBC sport headlines there: "The FA will imminently announce that McClaren, who is set for a £2.5m pay-off, has lost his job 18 months into a four-year contract. "2.5 million.....for NOT getting them to the Euros? ? Disgrace!! Bring on Jose!!!

He should never have got the job!
Martin O'Neil, or The Special One will be next in the hot seat.

I can't see Martin taking the job. He's a proud man and I don't think he'd want it now after being turned down in favour of McLaren 18 months ago. The England manager's job is always a lose/lose situation. All the English EXPECT to qualify and win tournaments, so ANYTHING below that expectation is almost certainly gonna result in the termination of your contract. Unlike say, McLeish, who has exceeded Scottish expectations just by playing well and beating a few good teams along the way. Think it's all set up for Mourinho.....or what about Martin Jol?

It's an impossible job for any manager in my opinion, unless they win everything they enter they will always come down hard on the manager. Listen to the boos at half time yesterday then when they got back square they were super patriotic again until the next goal!!
THANK f**k THEY'RE OUT THOUGH!!!!!

At least Scotland and The Wee Norn Irlenad can say we went down fighting, and wore our hearts on our sleeves!

I would have liked to have seen them qualify as i would all the British nations!! So many of us on here support English teams yet vy for the english national side to fail....somewhat confusing.
Noone likes the english press and the fans are admittidly fickle however the team I have a lot of time for especially when Stevie G is playing and any other liverpool players for that matter.

Think it's all set up for Mourinho.....or what about Martin Jol? Martin Jol is at PSV gawa. Hence the Even Arsene Wenger's being mentioned this afternoon. Any reporter worth his salt knows Arsene wouldn't touch the job with a 20 ft garlic-infused bargepole! He's worshipped at Arsenal. Why would he move? (Cue Wenger saying tonight he'd love the job)

See if he can motivate the shower of dung that is England. In sayin that, the manager has to take the gunk for his team selection. Why play with crouch up front on his own??! 4-5-1, fuk me like, thats a formation you play when your away from home looking a point, not that i would know of course

Jeff, I dont think it is confusing as to why many people that support English teams on these forums, hope and pray that the English national side will fail. I am a Manchester United supporter first and foremost, but the reason i love seeing their national team fail has nothing to do with the club i support. Thats like saying, i also support Barcelona, so therefore i had better hope the Spanish national side do well... My reasons for not liking the English national team are probably the same as everyone elses. The English fans, pundits, players & media all take it for granted. The press in England have to take the biggest blame for building them up and up. The national team is nowhere near the standard that they talk about everyday in the papers. I also find myself wondering where are the English players pride, that they so often go on about. Maybe its the fact that they think they are better than everyone else, that i hate them so much, but in my opinion, country and club are too very different things. No doubt you blame Cristiano Ronaldo for England's departure in the world cup..?? And more than likely it was the injuries that they had last night that didnt take them though..?? In my eyes, they simply werent good enough over the 12 games. So therefore they didnt deserve to go through. So im not going to have any sympathy for them... And itl give Man Utds english players a nice break next summer

And itl give Man Utds english players a nice break next summer I never said i support England. I support Northern Ireland i just dont mind the British team doing well. Man u players make up a big part of the squad, Rooney, Carrick Hargreeves etc do you like to see them fail? I personally get no satisfaction watchin Stevie G fail as I know how much it means to him to do well for england. Hardly the fault of the england side that the press and pundits build them up? The players never build themselves up. Bit unfiar to hate the team because of the media? I dont blame Christiano Ronaldo even though he was a prick. In the end its the same as it was this time in qualifying they just did not do the business noone to blame but the England players. Thats the one point i agree with you on. Its just a bit hypocritical in my eyes to support an english team in an english league yet hate all things english??

I dont hate all things english, just the national team. i love wayne rooney in a man utd shirt, but if he was playing against us for england, i would despise him for 90 minutes. just the way it is i suppose. the english players have overblown ego's and they take results for granted. thats why they fail, nothing to do with not having quality players, but the media do them no favours...
when was the last time you heard the media say something good about their england team??

i love wayne rooney in a man utd shirt, but if he was playing against us for england, i would despise him for 90 minutes. just the way it is i suppose. See thats my point? You either love him or you dont. When NI played England I wanted NI to win with all my heart. But I couldnt shout abuse at Gerrard or the other Liverpool players or wish them any ill will just because they were in a different shirt. You almost sound like some of the english fans with that type of fickle hypocritical love hate relationship.

So you wouldnt mind if Gerrard scored the winner against Northern Ireland to knock us out..??
Playing for your country is different than your club. There are no friends on the pitch.

Where did I say that? There is a massive difference in not wishing him ill will and wanting him to score. Like I said i have no split loyalties. 100% NI.
In the context of the conversation we were talkin about England failing to qualify. It meant nothing to NI either way. My comment was that people support the english league but want to see england fail? Cant understand it. I simply like to see the british nations do well, I am not too annoyed when they dont but I certainly wouldnt wish them to fail. I support NI. There is a massive difference

I can understand both points here, the media definately do pump up the England squad to great heights of expectation, which does annoy me! Also, look at the England team of 1990, when they were put out of the Italia 90 world cup, they were devastated.....but the fans . media still called them heroes (inlc Gazza!!)
Nowadays, when England are put out the media just calls them 'Failures' and 'under-achievers'!
I am glad England are out for that reason, but not glad as wa said on this thread, there are now no home nations in the Euros to watch, must be first time for a long time now!
I read on BBC news that they are thinking of starting up a Home Nations tournament which they had over 20 years ago now!?? I thik this would be a great idea, maybe wee Norn Iron get another good result against England at Windsor again!! ;D

have to agree i would like to have seen Scotland or England go through as we didn't make it ourselves.
Love to have seen Hutton marauding down the right against Europe's elite.
Euro's won't be the same without British representation. It's like the champions league, if there is no British team involved I'm not bigly interested and I'm sure i speak for the majority.

Well Scotland and England didnt want to participate in the home nations cup, until they both got knocked out of the euro's, now they might be interested... My opinion - to hell with them, we can just play republic and wales all summer
