Some work-out there tonight again lads I think you seen tonight just how we do things a little different to other teams who just adopt the philosophy that running round a pitch gets you fit for games...we know it doesnt.
That circuit sorted a few of yea's out lol and altho it looked easy it wasnt and thats the whole idea lads putting 110% into everything I ask is def reaping the rewards as we can see in our movement etc.
Having looked at a team in our division last year who effectivly struggled beat a good 2nd div team it goes to show that this season is gona be as tough as last season and hopefully the hard work we are doing now serves us well.
The commitment this year from every player is unbelievable as we had another turn out of 13 tonight and not 1 person has boaked so far...
Wee rest now till friday nights friendly and hopefully get a good turn-out and not just people appearing for the games. I have a major nightmare this season in who to play upfront but I have a few different ideas for up there and who I can play according to certain games opponents.
Brilliant work lads Im chuffed

i mind the saints did that about 5 years ago when we had a great squad... we had won 9 of our first 10 games, then were due to play braid in the cup.. me, bfp, hugo, few others were 'rested' BFP, flipped in the changing rooms, dont think he even stripped out! ;D ;D hugo came on and gave away a goal i came on and missed a pen in a shootout.. last time 'squad rotation' was ever used lol

After playing against Clough Rangers the other night I might not rotate too much lol.
Pre-season going great at the wee club and word is spreading that it is a good club to be part of and from the chat of the lads they are all enjoying the training and the banter.
This is the end of our 4th week back and the lads have been fantastic and its great having good numbers at training this year and the stuff we have been doing is a far cry from the usual shyte some clubs spout out as training.
Good work out against Clough the other night and we bossed the game for the 1st half then we changed things and we resorted to the long ball which didnt suit our front men.
Wee trip away tomorrow to Dunaghy OB down at the Joey Dunlop centre in Ballymoney...superb pitches and it really puts our council to shame as theres not a bad pitch in the whole of Coleraine and district at least not that i have seen. Tomorrow will be a good game and I think its to stay dry so if we cant play football on this pitch then give up lol.
Results arent important at the minute its more bout learning about us as a team and how we react to different scenarios in matches. Clough gave us a good test and so will our remaining friendlies starting tomorrow.
No major surprises in the starting line up and with 4 subs everyone will get a run out.
After tomorrow Il sit down with a couple of the players and get views on the 15 that we take into the new season and next weeks friendlies. Just over 2 weeks now to kick off so time to get serious and focus on Aug 3rd.
We'll enjoy tomorrow and take it from there.

I've been at all the training bar 1 the last 3 weeks and still don't feel as fit as previous years, it's early days yet though I want more! I'm glad I have my two sub appearances out of the way, really need more practice on the pitch, you can tell I have been playing more 5 aside over the years than 11, but it will come, it always comes! I noticed the other day we were sometimes playing like it's five aside, about 5 players in a 10x10 square of pitch and them goals seem really big and weird! When was the last time the strikers had some shooting practice at big goals and a keeper? It's always we cones. I think it would be useful for everyone to get away from 5 aside style football

Like big ricky says I'm worried about those first 2 preseason games, we have not been great and we have been beat by two teams that are not great either, I also think they are the same quality we will come up against in division 3, we need to get it together and start beating teams

to be fair Rab pre-season games are all about the getting the fitness in and getting rid of the rustyness from the summer break, although you want to win every game you play, its not about the results.

Rab I think your wrong there tell me the teams that we'll meet in the 3rd who are like that Dunaghy afternoon team... we'd have got a draw yesterday if you'd have finished the 2 sitters you missed, but then as Mitty rightly says its all about getting rid of the ring rust from the lay off.
You missed than more than 1 session mate... last thursday, the sat you were away playing 5 aside and the very first session we have had.

Clough are a 2nd division team and Dunaghy are higher level - no disgrace in losing to either of them. We have 5 or 6 new players out there - dont get too dispondant yet - things are going fine

them boys were not great at all, big ricky even thought so
LOL, your blaming me for not getting a draw and i was on the pitch for 15mins LMFAO.
I agree I need some shooting practice though, im not sharpe enough! I saw a big goal and got caught in two minds twice, they were not shots they were passes lol we need to do stuff in training, paul used to do one where you lined up about 6 six balls and you ran to and fro from a cone, taking shots, its a tough one, gets the shooting going under pressure and while your legs are burning

If you want to do shooting practice then thats ok but if it doesnt work in with the other lads who enjoy doing the training I set up and then they want a wee game before they go home. I aint gona ask them to stay just so the forwards can practice shooting mate.

I guess cause I dont have a car, I rely on lifts, I dont really get the chance to stay on after training. I even turned up 30 mins early at training one night to get some shooting practice, ended up doing a bit and talking s**te to you for the rest! It takes alot of work to get the shooting right in my case, takes alot of practice. I used to have a big brick wall and sit and ping them at it all day, theyd bounce back! but now i have no brick wall and no mates to stand on the other side to ping it back, (they all fvcked off due to my internet persona), them heurs at wakehurst took the posts away from the one by the road, there is a wire net behind the goal, where i used to practice shooting. I have loads of free time atm but nowhere to practice

Post by Rab on Jul 19, 2009 21:54:13 GMT
and its all true, playing as a striker is all about confidence, if you ping a ball at something all day you'll in a better position in a game, like snooker, or golf, its not rocket science like! ive been playing 5 aside football for the last 6 years with very little 11 aside, though my goalscoring record in 11 aside is impressive when I do, Im not used to big pitches and big goals

thought id give my opinion on this..........
i have thought that the training has been very good and i know form speaking to alot of boys that they are getting fitter and fitter by the week and are really enjoying it
i wont get involved in the shooting practice part as im not a striker but have to say that in my opinion the strikers are looking sharper
as for the friendlies sure every1 wants to win and it would be nicer to have the victories but especially the early pre season games its all about fitness and getting the team gelling together which i think its showing. people over reacting over a loss isnt going to help cos its going to happen at some stage during the season too............
theres my waffle over
