Is it true that training has now been moved to Galgorm on the grass?!? This sounds like a bit of a schoolboy error to me. Firstly, the pitch will more than likely be waterlogged for most of the winter ie training being cancelled Secondly, cant block book Galgorm so not always guarenteed to get it Finally, apparently we're not block booking Ballee anymore so now we cant even train there if Galgorm is cancelled. I know I havent attended many sessions this year due to work/injuries, but it now seems like the chances of training being on are slim. Sure its not even november yet and its been cancelled cos of bad weather! If ive got it wrong here please dont hesitate to put me right (as im sure yous will )

Am inclined to agree Duck. What was wrong with Ballee? I know we can't train on the grass at Ballee but would it really make much difference for the stuff we're doing. Is the floodlit pitch at Galgorm not pretty tiny or am I getting confused?

Anyone supposed to be training at ballee last night would also have probably fallen asleep while watching liverpool cause council cancelled that too!
Its more beneficial to train on grass than gravel. It will be more difficult to get it when weather kicks in but generally i think that if trainin is off then matches will to. We also have several other options available if weather looks like being too bad ie gravel, astroturf or indoor. We also have indoor every monday (whats the excuse now duck? ;D) so it just means we have to be on the ball when booking pitches.
Since burney i inured he could be our Michael Fish so we know to get the right facilities....

After the recent fundraising from the fireside quizzes we'll soon have enough money to start the building work on the 20,000 all seater stadium (to hold all the WAFA crew) with retractable roof and the indoor training facilities to boot so the weather won't be a problem any more. Nigel also said he would donate the money from the sale of his Ka (£2.50) to help with the building fund. ;D

Agree with Duck - think it's a poor decision.
The chances of training on the grass being cancelled out-weigh the benefits of training on the grass imo. And if like Cussy says we are relying on the committe being on the ball to change training to another place then we're screwed.

Nigel also said he would donate the money from the sale of his Ka (£2.50) to help with the building fund. ;D The Ka would be worth more than your piece of blue tin, would also beat you in a race! Anyway the decision to train on grass was taken because its better, and we still have the option of booking ballee if needed, as cussy said ballee was also closed on wed nite. Less injuries on grass, to knees ankles as running on roads or grass aint all that good.

Lets face it, the gravel is crap for training. I think most people would far rather train on the surface they have to play on. If your playing on heavy pitches in the winter you want to train on a similar surface, its far more beneficial.

I agree that grass is better, just cant see it working out during the winter period thats all. Gravel may be crap for training, but at least its better than not training at all!!

I think this is definately something we need to rethink. In the initial committee meetings when it was discussed we decided that we needed more training on grass during the winter and hence the decision to choose Galgorm as the council have little else to offer. I said at the time that we would have difficulty in a) booking the pitch at galgorm as block booking is not allowed, and b) training being cancelled at Galgorm due to bad weather in the winter. The last two weeks have been a perfect example of what I think could happen all winter but its maybe a bit early to decide yet without trying it first. It would be interesting to see how many time Galgorm's training is cancelled?!?!?
I think if it doesn't improve we need to definately block book Ballee again as it may be our only opportunity to train. We could just make do with using the grass area at Ballee even though it has poor lighting facilities and focus ball work on the gravel.
It is a committee decision at the end of the day but thats my opinion...........

i think there is def a rethink needed. no one can argue that the last 2 weeks there has been exceptional amount of rain and id expect ballee to be cancelled tonight as it was last week. Wel see.....

I'm actually shocked that Galgorm training stayed on despite a week of bad weather. Might be hope for the grass yet..........
