Templepatrick travelled to Ahoghill Rovers for their first league game of the season, and came home with a hard but well earned 3 points.
Rovers are in my opinion going to be one of the favourites for the league this season. They played some great football at times in the game, and squandered chance after chance. Some very good players.
Templepatrick however showed the effort and work rate needed to unsettle this side, and their hard work paid off. Rovers having the more convincing chances in the first half, with Templepatrick working hard to close their playmakers down.
Half time: Ahoghill Rovers 0 v 0 Templepatrick
Rovers went 1 up about 10mins into the second half when a goal bound header struck the hand of Fieldsy. A penalty was duely awarded, which was well put away.
Templepatrick equalised soon after though, when the ball was put into the box by Ross McNab and Jonny Stevenson was there to bundle it over the line to open his account for the season.
Templepatrick took control of the game now, as a frustrated Ahoghill side found no way through. A fantastic ball forward from the left wing by Jay Crane found Stuarty Wilson bombing through, and with his first touch putting him through on goal, he chipped the advancing Rovers keeper. A hell of a goal.
Rovers frustration then seemed to get the better of them, with 2 sendings off.
Templepatrick had to weather the last 10 minutes with long balls being pumped forward from defence, and in fairness Rovers missed 3 or 4 good chances to pull the game level.
Final Score: Ahoghill Rovers 1 v 2 Templepatrick
