As I said in a earlier post I don't think either of these two sides would win this cup, but any how. The game was at Wakehurst on a very cold and dreary morning but I can assure you the Reds were certainly up for this game, as I think we had a point to prove mostly to ourselves. The game started full blooded with no team wanting to surrender any part of the pitch at all, so tackles were certainly flying. The Reds defense with Willy Mc Kitt and David Waddell have certainly formed a good partnership and out fought and muscled most of the Riverdale attacks and with Micky Mc Kendry and Micky Mc Nally in center mid doing much the same Riverdale never really threatened. The Reds had certainly most of the first half and were unlucky not to have scored. Just before half time David Mc Cracken and one of the Riverdale players went whole heartedly into a tackle which has now resulted in David now having a broken ankle no blame it must be said goes to the Riverdale player who was hurt also in the tackle. Half time 0-0. John Kitson replaced David Mc Cracken for the start of the second half would be more a forward going player and caused Riverdale plenty of trouble down the left. Eventually his persistence payed off and out pasted two defenders and chipped the ball over the keeper and into the net. Davy Reids long goal kicks with a strong breeze behind him were causing Riverdale defenders a lot of problems with the pace of Brian Surgenor and Peter Hurrell. Although it was only 1 nil we were very comfortable and were able to bring on 15 year old Kenneth French for his first game and he never looked out of place. We had a very, very young team out today and had a few first team players missing as I'm sure Riverdale probably had as well. Youth is certainly the way to go as far as I am concerned. It was certainly nice to get a break away from the league today and knowing now we are in the hat for the next round is very pleasing. The five games we have played form the new year reads three wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat. We are not the finished article by a long way but we are getting there and as I said before the future looks bright at the Reds!!!, and did I say "Come on the Reds!!"
The Team Today
1 David Reid 2 Aly McCosh 3 Andy Harte 4 David Waddell* 5 Willy McKitt 6 Micky McNally 7 Micky McKendry 8 David McCracken 9 Peter Hurrell 10 Brian Surgenor 11 Chris Perry
Subs John Kitson Brian Rainey Kenny French Man of match *

Great result against Riverdale lads, sorry to hear about your player breaking his ankle. Never nice to hear when something like that happens to another player so pass on our regards from the boys at the Keel and hopefully its not too long until he's back playing again.
ps - who do youse play next week ?

Just a thought....but should young Kenny French be playing at all seeing he is only 15 ! I thought you had to be 16 before signing a BSML form?

Hey Stiffy.......heres a thought...try taking your tongue outta Raineys ass for 5 seconds. What started out as merely a simple 'wondering' has now turned into 'need to know'. I shall find out on my own......you may hope you are allowed to sign a 15 year old

It was only a simple question it has to be said...there were no ulterior intentions behind it from what I can see.
