Hate to break up the arguments here lads but i think the main reasons for so many Antrim boys playing for Athletic is plain to see. It was more down to circumstance really. I asked Steeks down to help with the coaching side at Massereene as he wanted to get involved with football again. He did this and when the opportunity to manage his own team came around he took it. Obviously he got to know alot of the boys from Massereene and when things went a bit tits up at Massereene for some boys the best option for them was to go somewhere they knew they would be welcomed, got on with the manager and could still play football with a few mates.

the cold facts are thatyou all need players from antrim to survive in this league. so i will say again can 3 teams in randalstown survive

As for bringing players through the ranks we are not a selfish team nor are we stupid, we do have players in our team who have come through the ranks but if we spot a young talented player with potential like we do, but he is not ready yet to compete for a place in the team, I ask you does it not make more sence for his development that he get games and experience at a lesser level, meanwhile we keep tabs on him to we feel hes ready for our great we club, and then try to get him and that is our policy, I might add we are not always successful at getting these players. If all things were the way we wanted we would have a reserve team but that is not possible. As for three teams in the town it probably has a affect on the standard because the quality can get diluted a bit, but they all seem to be doing well at the moment and at the end of the day players are getting to play this great game, and its no different for Randalstown than any other town ,but you will get more teams in the top division from bigger towns I would also like to point out to you that both Athletic and Reds have attracted 1st division players to there teams already this season, but hey what do I know Im just happy to be the manager of a great we club and very young talented team at the moment who just happened to turn up and ask could they join us. ;D

Fanatic what can I say other than come down to the Reds training some night and we can discuss the matter!!! Speaking for the Reds at the min we lost three
Ballymena players from our team that started the season Peter Compton Owen Martin and Mark McCambridge it left a whole in the team which the legend has worked hard to fill but we have survived . As far as the rest of the season is concerned the Reds would have absolutely know problem surviving with Randalstown players but the question is would they win anything?

my brother told me 58goals that you thought you were something that you arnt and from reading wot you wrote he is right. great we club wot a load of balls. i would call a great we club who have managed to get sole use of a ground have players who actually like each other not mentioning any names and a team who after 20 odd years playing in the same division have never won the league. great my arse
back4 wot are you on ihav no f**king clue wot you are talking about but i suppose that normal for someone who plays for the reds. i dont play for anyone but my brother does so training is out of the question but no problem discussing any issue with you anywhere else
