RACE FOR THE FIRST DIVISION TITLE HOTS UP
This season's First Division Championship has been the most exciting for many years and the winners are not likely to be known until the last series of games are played.
Three teams - Rathenraw, Penarol and Carniny Rangers are still in with a chance.
Penarol 2 Rathenraw 2
Penarol got off to a lively start and twice in the opening exchanges Derek O'Kane tested Tony Jennings.
Then in the 13th minute, Ian Richardson was tripped inside the area, but O'Kane's penalty was brilliantly saved by the keeper.
Rathenraw, roused by this, pressed forward and midway into the half Maurice Devine gave them the lead with a terrific goal after Ronnie Verner supplied the cross.
A few minutes later Verner almost stretched the visitors lead with a low drive which Kirk Dairymple just managed to touch round the base of the upright.
Penarol replied and Richardson was unlucky not to score after beating the keeper - his shot was cleared of the line by Kieran McIllvennie.
Rathenraw attacked after the interval and an Alan Porter effort struck the woodwork.
Penarol then stormed back and a one two between John White and O'Kane paved the way for Michael McCormick to slot in the equaliser.
The home side were on top at this stage and in the 72nd minute McCormick headed them into the lead from a Finlay White cross.
Rathenraw ataged a spirited rally and in the 88th minute Fergie Wallace lobbed a free kick towards the back post where Dessie Jackson out-jumped his marker to propel a firm header into the roof of the net.
I remember this game like it was yesterday........ooooo im old. (I played in it)
Some old name in there some people might know..... especialy the White brothers..... both dirty gits ;D
