The name was Tanner, CJ Tanner. A mountain of a man who strode round the pitch like a colossus, a modern day Goliath who ran at the goal like an out of control express train. CJ was effective in his own right, but when you've got the unique talent of hitting the ball in whatever direction your facing at the time ur goin to encounter the odd problem or two.
Picture the scene.....it was a cold morning at dunvane and demesne had just taken the lead against the then 3rd division league leaders randalstown. the boys where on a high and there was only one winner........
step up to the plate CJ! the demesne goal kick was well struck coming down from the clouds just inside the opposition half, then those infamous words were uttered that every demesne player loved to hate 'colins' ball!'........
what happened next seemed to be in slow motion, CJ was facing towards his own goal and ive no doubt he was trying to flick the ball on, but remember that skill of his i mentioned earlier... the ball and his forehead connected like a clap of thunder on a stormy day and looped back towards our own penalty area were it proceeded to bounce over our keeper who was near the edge of the box (lulled into a false sense of security by his good kickout) and into the net for the equalizer!
im still struggling to this day to believe it. An o.g from a header inside the oppositions half?*%!
Only CJ Tanner my friends, a true Demesne legend.

What a player. Remember one night out in galgorm, he got sent off for hammering the ball onto the road on two seperate occasions. Total legend. He also scored some of the greatest goals ive ever seen, including a 45 yard volley against broadway celtic at dunfane. A lot of people would say he maybe lacked a bit of subtlety, but thats balls.

Amen to that brother! CJ Tanner a man capable of the sublime one minute and the ridiculous the next. A true modern day jekyll and hyde footballer.
ah, the good old days.

Here's a tester: Who had/has the best first touch/body shape/technique - Kenny Paul or Colin Tanner? I'm talking about when they were both at the peak of their powers.

would probably agree but Kenny has plenty of time to reach where CJ was at his peak. Kenny is yet to perfect the "kick the ball 100yards when you're 5yards from the touchline" manoeuvre. Tanner was and is a demesne legend. He scaled heights and plumbed depths that other players can only dream of.
