Not sure when anyone will see this cause the league doesnt start for a while but im bored at work so who cares. Good to see an excellent turn out last night for our first session, Scully put us through our paces and my blisters are killing me but it was as always good banter. Good to see a couple of new faces as well and special mention to young Finlay who has clearly been looking after himself - the running was like a walk in the park for him!! Always funny to see Rob throwing up, that boy is a real loser and dont think its a coincidence that he was on the skins team that got absolutely hammered!! You were dire boys! Until next time

Jamesy has finally signed up to use the Blackstone BSML forum. Training was great guys, loving it! It we keep at it we will be more than ready for the new season, cheers to Scully. & it wouldnt be a blackstone session without a Rob-a-rama moment, lets take automatic promotion this season so some rubbish team dont get promoted who we beat 7-2 over last season. Looking forward to scoring plenty this season, the 'wee men' duo will be a formidable partnership!

Training was very good though them press up's etc killed me. It was a great turn out and hopefully we can maintain high numbers throughout the season both at training and at the matches.

And we're back!!! Pre-season has been a bit stop start for me with Galway, but i'm cleaning up my act and plan to establish myself yet again as the first choice full back at the club. Great to see some new faces as well... my aim is to make Blackstone Rovers Football Club a bastien of invincibility, just like Shankly with the mighty reds in the 70's! We're Black, we're back, we're going to attack!

Good enough games last night lads. Both teams playing a heap of players which made the match that bit scrappy. All the same it was a good work out and gave the gaffers a chance to see who they have at their disposal. Good luck for the new season blacks. All the best

Good wee workout last night, well for you boys anyway, i barely got a touch! [queue the "thats a good thing" line!] Turned into a bit of an England style friendly in the second half with both teams practically changing their whole 11, but it was good to get a game under our belts. Mention for Jamesy Wilson, who took his goal really well and looked lively up front, and also for Kipper who ran the show in the middle of the park when he came on in the second half. Not so sure about the whole 4-3-3 thing but i suppose friendlies is when you try these things out. Cheers to Masserene, good bunch of lads who played the game in a good spirit. Good luck for the rest of the season.

thats a good thing ;D
Yeah its fair to say the 4-3-3 experiment caused total disarray for 15 minutes but we have to try these things.
Other than that the game was a complete success. If tonight goes half as well then we're in great shape for the season.

Just to get you in the mood for this evening, sorry havn't had time to update website but Finlardo has kindly provided this match report from Tuesday's game:
Blackstone Rovers 1 Massarene 1
The Rovers geared up for a new campaign with an impressive draw against second division opponents Massarene at Antrim Forum. On a drizzle-swept evening the pace of the tie belied the game’s friendly status and the slick surface ensured that there was a frantic beginning to the match. It was the Blackstone who settled quickest, with new signing Davey Thompson particularly involved in the opening exchanges. Up front a new striking partnership of James Wilson and Gary Fowler looked threatening; however it was the second division side who took the lead. A dangerous ball into the box was only partially cleared and the Massarene attacker provided a great finish, leaving an unsighted Neil McClay with no chance. This was harsh on the men in black but to their credit they regrouped and began to play the better football. Neat interplay between Wilson and Patrick Finlay saw the pacey striker through on goal but his effort from a tight angle was blocked by the on-rushing ‘keeper. With the luxury of a very large squad to choose from the Blackstone had put together a makeshift team, with Brian Bogle moving across to centre back. And it was his superb last-ditch tackle that denied a Massarene striker from racing clean through on goal. The Rovers began to apply more pressure, with James Wilson looking particularly dangerous. His constant sniping of the Massarene right-back gifted possession to the Rovers on numerous occasions and was the springboard for many attacks. It was no surprise that when the Rovers scored to level the game it was Wilson who provided the telling finish. The striker latched on to a defensive mix up between two Massarene defenders on the half way line and raced clear. He then coolly chipped the stranded ‘keeper from the edge of the box, much to the delight of the Rovers’ bench. His striking partner Fowler almost got in on the act as well. He latched onto a Finlay cross but his effort was well wide in the end. At the back the Rovers looked organised, with skipper Mike Stevenson controlling things. He looked particularly calm, until a clash of heads with the ever-dependable David Harris which seemed to cause discomfort to the big centre back. The half ended with another Rovers chance, but sadly Johnny Adair could not provide the telling finish to a cross that had been flicked on by Wilson.
The Rovers ran the changes at halftime and an entirely different team, with the exception of Neil McClay, took to the field. The central midfield partnership of Ciaran McKinlay and Ian Latimer quickly slipped back into unison as the Rovers again held the upper hand. At the back Dean Mooney was fulfilling the role that Mike Stevenson had been carrying out in the first half. A further few changes were added to the team and this seemed to detract from the football to an extent. Craig Coulter and Warren Blayney combined well, with the full back often overlapping to good effect on occasion. Up front the pace of Alex Fleck and Brian Millar was causing the Massarene backline some problems. The first clear opportunity of the half came about after a quick throw in was picked up by Ian Latimer who beat the ‘keeper with a shot from an almost impossible angle. The ball trickled along the line but the midfielder’s celebrations were cut short after the ball rebounded off the far post and was cleared to safety. The next opportunity came completely out of the blue as Tim Montgomery blasted a fierce left-foot volley, with the Rovers’ bench in raptures until they realised the long range effort was just slightly off target. At the back Dean Mooney looked very commanding as he broke up numerous Massarene attacks, ably assisted by Bertie Fleck and outside by Coulter and Victor Orr. Montgomery then flashed another goal-bound effort but the ‘keeper got his body behind the strike. The game was still being played at a high tempo, with McKinlay bossing the midfield. This hard work almost led to a goal for Fleck but sadly his dipping volley crashed off the outside of the post. The Rovers did have some moments of concern at the back and it took a last-ditch effort from the mercurial McKinlay to prevent a swift counter attack resulting in an effort on goal. The final chance of the half fell to Montgomery but it wasn’t to be the big man’s day as his shot from twelve yards failed to find the target.
A good showing then from the Blackstone and the selection committee will certainly have their work cut out to pick a team from so many good performances on the field.
