A short match report as it is 11.20pm and I am absolutely cream crackered (far too many matches for a 35 year old).
A very evenly contested match with Steadfast playing the better football in the first half and basically running out of legs in the last 15 minutes.
Steadfasts first goal (20 mins) came from Neil Mearns after good work down the left from Neil McCaig saw him put a great cross into the back stick for Mearnsy to volley home from 10 yards.
Chrissy Clail was excellent up front for Steadfast and was causing the Riverdale defence a lot of problems with his pace while Steadfasts two centre halves of Sammy Rea and Clive Byham handled everything Riverdale could throw at them.
Half Time - Steadfast 1 Riverdale 0
The second half started as expected with Riverdale throwing everything at Steadfast to try and get an equalizer, but all their efforts were thwarted by a resolute Steadfast defence.
It was Steadfast who came the closest to scoring when great work down the right by James Wharry and Dean Cupples saw a great cross into the box almost converted by the lively Chrissy Clail.
All Steadfasts good work was undone 15 minutes from time when a corner for Riverdale saw Rab Crawford head a great equalizer for the Dale.
Riverdale now had their tails up and were looking for a winner and guttingly for Steadfast it came in the last kick of the game when a superb shot from 25 yards from the Riverdale forward (sorry don't know your name) gave Gareth Lowry in nets no chance.
Final Score - Steadfast 1 Riverdale 2
A good performance from Steadfast all over the pitch saw them come up short against a Riverdale team who I think will be challenging for automatic promotion. However, if we play like this all season we will win more games than we lose and a play off place should be there for the taking.
All the best for the rest of the season Riverdale.
