Lisnafillan have had a good side for a couple of seasons now, so we went into the game knowing what to expect. Especially after the bad start we had to Randalstown Ath.
Massereene never gave the home side a chance to settle with Ally Cupples & Chris Lynn getting tight to Lisnafillans play makers early on.
It was Massereene who took the lead after a through ball from Wes Allen found an oncoming Chris Lynn steaming through from midfield to stear his shot wide of the keeper and into the net.
Lisnafillan didn't roll over, and came at Massereene straight away. Winnie Ward, Tommy Irvine Dalto and Nigel were great at the back. Nigel being the pick of the bunch as he gave Andy Irwin (Becks) nothing.
Massereene has more chances before the break, but were caught offside a multitude of times, showing the inexperience of the young side.
Half Time:- Lisnafillan Swifts 0 v 1 Massereene Swifts
Second half started brightly for Massereene, with Lisnafillan finding no way through. Rab Crawford was causing the home side problems down the left, and eventually set off Johnny Stevenson, who lightning pace seen him shrug off the last defender and smash the ball home to make it 0.2 to the visitors.
Lisnafillan stepped up their game, and with Andy Irwin and Rodney Beggs in their side, they were always going to create chances. They got there reward with twenty minutes to go. A dodgy penalty award, with a player running into one of ours in the box and going down. Up stepped Andy Irwin, and he made no mistake with a low drive into the bottom corner.
Again Lisnafillan put pressure on the Massereene defence, who by now were starting to tire. Rodney Beggs and Becks again being instrumental, but finding no way through a stubborn Swifts defence.
The breakthrough finally came with 1 minute to go a ball into the box was only partially cleared, and found a Lisnafillan player who shot home low into the bottom corner.
Final Score:- Lisnafillan Swfts 2 v 2 Massereene Swfts
A much needed improvement this game was from our first game. We showed great determination, although fitness told in the last twenty minutes. Though that will come. We used the ball well, were hungry for the ball, and our movement was great. Disappointed to lose the win in the last minute, but I have to say Lisnafillan are a great side and deserved something from the game.
P.S. It was great to get a wee kick at you Becks
