I,d just like to make a few comments on last nights match. Castletown the RABBLE as we,ve been called did get all their old pensioners signed out of the NURSING HOME for the night. They turned up with their boots and ZIMMERFRAMES. I think they were cheating! They must have been the motorised versions because they were able to get around the big wide open expanses of Chimney Corner with not to much bother. Yes thats the big wide open pitch the young Masserene players with burning pace were going to run the old fat done Castletown players ragged. All the above quotes have been directed towards Castletown in the build up to this match, and I know the players just laughed them off.But maybe it gave a few of them a little spur to quiet the knockers. I think its a bit of the green eyed monster syndrom.
Anyway enough of the joking. Id just like to say hard luck Masserene, even at 3-0 down you never gave up to your credit.I hope you go on and get the points required for promotion.Promotion from the 3rd div. to the 1st div. in two seasons is a great effort. Good Luck..............

I dont think i said one bad word against the town in the lead up to the final - knew it wos gonna be a tough match for us boys cos we dont have much experience in the team just yet. Thought we gave you a good game and didnt let our heads drop - 3-0 down was just too much to get back but we should be up for our match this saturday against clough - if we win, we get promotion to the first which is some acheivement as u said. Well done again lads.

Spectator, I dont think anyone commented about Castletown for this game. I have seen many congrats on winning the league undefeated, including congrats from me. Great acheivemnet. What people were commenting on was the ability of your team to compete in the 1st division next season. I will not comment on that in case the hankies are not available. I too was at the game and to be honest I thought you guys were extremely ordinary. I thought the penalty was not clear cut...... think it was a lucky call. I thought Masserene were the better side in the second half and were unlucky not to score 2 or 3 goals..... in other words you held on. I also think a lack of experience affected Masserene, an attribute you guys have. Not a convincing win...... but a win so congratulations on completing the double. Cant wait until next year when you have to play the big teams...... get your hankies ready Spectator for that.

Baldrick thanks for all your congrats and well done and good luck for saturday.
Again bremner doesnt surprise me with his comments. 3-1 is a convincing win in anyones books ok so we didnt play the football we can but it was a final and their was a lot at stake as we had to prove ourselves to the doubters. How he can be so blinkered about Castletown and still suggest he has nothing against us is beyond me. Their will be changes for next year let me assure you of that but as I have stated before and will do again their is nobody at Castletown who will not be an asset to our squad. GO ON THE OLD MEN.

i thought a lot of the 50-50 decisions went in castletowns favour. and as for the penalty, how did sandy give that?? the castletown boy stood on the defender and fell!!! The linesman had a better view and his flag stayed down. Lucky deflection to allow stuarty conlon to score but he tucked it away well, and for stevos goal, id love to know were the massereene defence went, but again, he finished it well. Think inexperienceup front for massereene told in the end as the forwards seemed to be playing to score themselves instead of a pass to a better positioned team mate. Good win for the town though

I don't know what match some of you guys were at but from a neutral prospective Castletown controlled most of the first half and deservedly went in at half time 3-0 in the lead. If they had taken their chances the lead could have been more. After the restart Castletown weren't at the match for the first 20 minutes. Massereene controlled the match and had a few chances to cut the deficit. The goal they did score was poor defending from Castletown, the ball travelled past 3 defenders before the Massereene player scored. After that Massereene continued to press but were lucky on the occassions Castletown caught them on the break when Castletown missed 3 clear cut chances to add to their score. Late on Masssereene again could have scored but poor finishing and taking the wrong option was their biggest fault. Castletown never looked like losing the match once they got in front. Don't forget, playing in finals is nothing new to most of the Castletown team which IMO is a vital in these situations. Massereene have some good individual young players who will get better with playing at a higher level but from my experience it is hard to look past experienced players no matter what their age. Maybe some of the Masseerene players believed that on the big pitch their young legs would get them through. I hope they learned on Wednesday night that youthful exuberence isn't the only thing needed to win cups and leagues. Experience can't be bought it is something you gain from playing with and against better opposition.

Birdie I think any neutrals who attended the match and their wer,nt many of them, the majority were there to see Castletown beaten would agree that the score could have been 8-3 to Castletown,if we had taken our clear cut chances and Masserene theirs. As I,ve said in previous posts I hope you get the points you need to gain promotion you deserve it Good Luck.

Its quite obvious and curtious that SPectator is having a little grumble about me.....however......
The questions i rasied about the Casteltown rabble....sorry players...were not in respect ot the final but to next season in the 1st division. Now going on previous comments made you reckon you will be the only team in Antrim to challenge for 1st division honours.....that means finishing above Enkalon and Masserene...which to be honest seems very unlikely.
If this is the case these this time next season i will happily turn round and admit that i was wrong....however you have to do it yet.
As for the final...well done...experience showed in the end and you make a very valid point....youthfull exuberance will no win you games....however the learngn curve is steep and most of the players are on it....heres to next season and a couple of lovely derby games.
BTW....dont panic Baldrick...we'll get you a hand to get up the steep learngin curve....i know you're getting on.
