Glenarm Rovers 0 Abbeyview 2
An excellent win for Abbeyview against a very good Glenarm side.
After a very even first 20 mins, with both sides getting the ball down and playing good football, Abbeyview took the lead when from right back a great move involving Scott Magee winning the ball before making a great pass to Colin Bell who then put a great low cross into the box to Andy Robinson who cleverly fooled the Rovers defense into thinking he was shooting for goal only to lay the ball back for Jackie Todd to shoot home from the edge of the area, and the scoreline remained 1-0 at the break.
Both teams had good spells of posession in the second half, with Glenarm going close on a few occasions, and Colin Bell forcing the Glenarm keeper into a great save low to his right hand side on 60 mins.
10 minutes later after a corner to Abbeyview, the ball fell to Colin Bell at the back post and he stooped low to head the ball into the net to make it 2-0.
Glenarm threw everything at the visitors in the last 15 minutes, most notably a cracking volley from just inside the box that thumped the Abbeyview crossbar, but Abbeyview defended well and held on to their lead until the end.
A very good performance from Abbeyview in our last league game of the season which keeps us in with a shout of a play-off place.

Cheers mate, but dont count yourselves out yet, win those 3 games in hand and you finish a point above us. Also, Riverdale only 1 game left v Glenarm Rovers, so thats a very tough one for them to get the 3 points they need for a guaranteed play-off spot.

abbeyview deserved the win and if yous had that team all season i would think yous would have been pushing for the league rather than play off!very surprised to see no higher league players ticked for yous as there was some very good players on your side!

That has been our team all season. Our problem has been consistancy and an inability to grind out results in the winter months when pitches are poor. Away to Clough being a prime example we just cant get a win up there. The same problem has dogged us for the past three years. Your pitch last night was in great conditiion and suited our style down to the ground. If we could play on pithces like that and our home pitch every week I believe we would be challenging for the title.

Jeff, I have been playing for Steadfast for 14 years and got my first point at the weekend against Clough, they are very difficult to beat at home.

Yea Jackie Todd got the first goal usually plays in centre midfield smashing player bags of ability. Up front rab and andy make a smashing partnership. The centre halfs were both excellent last nite jackie burrows the older of the two did play for crues back in his day bout 15 years ago lol. There are plenty of players in our team who have the ability to play higher league a lot of young guys who probably will Jackie Todd being one he's ony 19! Hopefully with a few additions in the Summer we will mount a serious challenge nxt yr.
good luck in the first next year, you deserve to win the league!

RoversNo1, the guy def got it wrong last night, maybe Jackie Burrows, Bellsy, Stevie Smith and Andy Robinson a few years ago but our full squad last night was as follows K.Ferson, S.Magee, A.Donnelly, G.Dalton, S.Smith, J.Burrows, C.Bell, J.Todd, C.Perks, D.McWilliams, R.Murdoch, A.Robinson, D.Thompson, S.Chestnutt, P.Dunlop, John Todd - (no ticks because no higher league) - Injured - Alan Cochrane (watching on crutches) & Stephen Brown (watching, with dead leg), with Gary Brown (unavailable higher league player, Larne FC). Dont be giving these guys a big head now mate!! lol
Good luck to Glenarm Rovers, very good team, and worthy title winners, but last night Abbeyview thoroughly deserved their win.

think we (glenarm) get 3 points then glencloy can get level on points with us but at the minute we have a better goal difference. So 4 points out of last 2 games wins us the league. We play riverdale away and massereene away last to games but its tight as hell really in 2nd division

Any how good luck in your last to games

Just for the record, the league standings are a follows. ......................P...............Pts Glenarm..........25..............54 Waveney........26..............52 RAFC.............25..............51 Glencloy.........24..............50
Personally I feel Glenarm have it in the bag. Very tight to call for second place even though Glencloy are favorites

we drew tonight so need to beat massereene to win the league and they pushed rafc close 3-1 so wont be easy thats for sure. The whole playoff-top of the league thing is really really tight great end to the season

Blacky unless you's have a really bad day and Massereene draft in some new players, I don't think you's will have much of a problem winning the game. Saying that I hope Massereene do beat you and Clough beat Glencloy and RAFC win their last match to draw level on points.
