Abbeyview 4 Randalstown Athletic 2
A late fixture change seen Abbeyview host their neighbours in a keenly contested game at the Forum.
Abbeyview, without a game in five weeks started slowly and Athletic had the best of the opening exchanges with Sean Hale hitting the outside of the post after 5 minutes and then in the 15th minute the same player, after a slip by the home keeper was first to react and prod the ball home for Athletic to take a deserved lead. After the early pressure from the visitors, Abbeyview settled and got back into the game midway through the half when Andy Robinson pressured the Athletic keeper into making a hurried clearance which only seen the ball spin kindly for the striker to roll the ball into the empty net to level the score.
On 40 minutes Abbeyview went ahead when Robinson turned his marker on the edge of the area and shot home from 12 yards to make it 2-1 at the break.
Early second half seen both sides create a few half chances but it was the home side who struck first when after a corner on 60 minutes Athletic's clearance was knocked back into the box and Robinson challenged the keeper which seen the loose ball fall to Alan Donnelly who stroked the ball into the net through a crowded area to make it 3-1. Athletic went close with a headed effort that went over the bar and Abbeyview's Stephen Brown drilled his shot wide after he found himself free inside the area.
Athletic pulled a goal back after 70 minutes when Speedy Cameron latched onto a headed through ball, rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home to make it 3-2.
Any chance of Athletic getting something from the game ended 5 minutes later when Stephen Brown superbly hit a clearance from the Athletic keeper first-time from 40 yards out into the unguarded goal to restore the two goal lead.
In the last minute of time 'View' keeper Ferson made an excellent save to tip a header round the post and secure a vital win for Abbeyview.
Goals: A.Robinson 22, 40 A.Donnelly 60 S.Brown 75
Man of the Match: Alan Donnelly
