Abbeyview 7 - 2 Steadfast
Abbeyview got back to winning ways in the league completing a league 'double' over their opponents Steadfast.
After a lively start by both sides, Abbeyview opened the scoring in the 10th minute when the pacy Alan Gifford latched onto a great pass from Rab Murdoch and slipped the ball under the keeper to score. Murdoch then made it 2-0 after some good work from Graham Mitchell on the right hand side. Steadfast were still dangerous going forward and almost pulled a goal back but (No.11) shot straight at the home keeper when well positioned. On 25 minutes an Abbeyview corner was met by Murdoch and his header flashed across the goal-line before coming off Stephen Brown's heel and finishing up in the net to make it 3-0. Steadfast pulled a goal back after a free-kick was punched clear by the home keeper only to fall to (No.10) who superbly headed the ball into the far corner of the net. Murdoch made it 4-1 just before half-time when he pounced on a loose ball after Chris Perks had hit the crossbar.
Straight from kick-off in the second half Steadfast pulled a goal back after a long-throw was flicked on by (No.9) and a Steadfast player () reacted first at the back post to shoot home to make it 4-2. Jackie Todd then sent Gifford clear with a superb pass and he easily rounded the Steadfast keeper to score his second of the game and shortly after Todd broke through himself only to be hauled down from behind but the referee deemed the defender had got a touch on the ball. Colin Bell made it 6-2 with a great strike from the edge of the area and the excellent Gifford completed his hat-trick on 80mins after a flowing move involving Paul Dunlop and Jackie Todd.
