Abbeyview 1 Riverdale 2
Abbeyview played some of their best football of the season in this game during the first half but could not find the net on several occasions and paid the price with Riverdale making the most of their opportunities in the second half to grab the three points. With Andy Robinson running the show in midfield Abbeyview dominated from the off playing some great moves down both flanks and should have scored only for some poor finishing in front of goal and Riverdale would have been the happier team going into the break with the match scoreless.
On 55 minutes Abbeyview deservedly took the lead when after a clearance from a corner, Jackie Todds long range shot looked to be going well wide until Stevie Smith's knee caught the ball to send it past the wrong-footed Riverdale keeper. 5mins later, Abbeyview lost influential midfielder Andy Robinson to a bad ankle injury and the forced changes to the team seemed to unsettle the home side and Riverdale began to control the midfield. On 70 minutes Riverdale equalised when their No.9 broke through and despite the Abbeyview calls for off-side the referee waved play on and the forward slotted the ball home to make it 1-1. 10 minutes later it was 2-1 to the visitors after their No.7 made an excellent run from his own half down the left side before crossing for the Riverdale striker to stroke home and take the lead. Abbeyview threw everything at Riverdale after this and went close with Jackie Burrows poking a shot which was cleared off the line and then Stevie Smith smacked the base of the post from 25 yards but Riverdale held on to earn a great away win.
