Randalstown Reds 3 v 5 Abbeyview
We knew from the outset that this was going to be a difficult game away from home and with a few players missing. This was proved right after only 5 minutes when their striker didn't beat the off side trap going wide, whipped a good ball in for the free Peter Hurrel to head home.
We then settled on the ball and pressurised the Reds half for the next 20 -25 minutes but their defence looked solid and their keeper sweeping up well. The Reds missed a couple of opportunities to extend their lead but for the good goal keeping of Keith. With 5 minutes left of the half, good play from man of the match Allen Donnelly cut in from the left wing to shoot, only for the keeper to parry the ball into the path of Andy Thompson who slotted home for the equaliser.
Second half could not have started any better for us. with only 5 minutes gone 2 goals in 2 minutes from Stevie Smith and Allen Donnelly give us a 3-1 lead. Mistakes at the back costing the Reds dearly. It was then the charge of the light brigade from the Reds. They threw everything and everbody forward in search for a couple of goals which they got to draw the game level with 25 minutes left to play.
At this stage I think a few boys thought...oh no not again. However with 15 mnutes to go it was again 2 goals with in 5 minutes that killed the game off. Wesley Allen and substitute Gary Brown adding to the score sheet to make it 5-3 and 5 different goal scorers for the view. We should have extended the score further as Gary Brown and Andy Thompson missed golden opportunities as the Reds defence made more mistakes.
Never the less a great result and a morale booster after our last defeat. It goes to show how tight this division is this year.
