Lads i have long thought that Rooney is 1 of the most over-rated players in the world and in my eyes is laughable to compare him to any of the top players in the world. Yes he produces moments of sheer brilliance but there few and far between
After messi Ronaldo falcao xavi iniesta and rvp id say Rooney is at the lower end of a group including ibramavic Mata pirlo neymar to name a few any1 agree??

I know in goina get slated for this but big victor wanyama has all the attributes to become world class and WHEN he moves on from the hoops i hope its to a manager like fergie who will nuture him and let him mould into the best defensive midfielder in world which in a few years WILL happen if guided right
KEN mate big zaltan would be in the 1st bracket if he tried a bit more in certain games but there's no doubting the mans class

Messi and Ronaldo are the only 2 I would class as World Class, they are up with Maradona, Pele (the Brazilian one) and Cruyff.

World class at present donko surely falcao rvp (best out and out strikers in the world) xavi and iniesta best ball playing midfielders in the world are up there as there the best at what they do by a long way Falcao needs to play in Champs Lg but could eventually be world class, RVP has been excellent for 2 seasons but really needs to win something.... I would put Xavi and Iniesta along with Platini, Gullit, Van Basten, beckenbaur, Charlton.....top top class, but just below the true greats.....forgot about Best, he would be in the World class bracket

In terms of there legacys etc yes donko i agree totally but your missing the point im simply putting those 6 players ahead of the rest who are playing at this moment but then again messi and Ronaldo should really be in a class of there own with the next 4 ahead of the rest including Rooney but when we see a bit more of neymar i sense he will be right up there

Wanyama should not be mentioned on this thread which is in relation to whether Rooney is good enough to be considered world class. He's not even the best at United by the way and next season will be 3rd best. Start a new one about guys who nobody heard of who then turned it on in Scotland and looked the part in the Champions League (remember Liam Miller? ??) May in time be quality but not worthy of the players on this thread.

Big 'if' but Imo, Rooney will be all time leading appearances and goalscorer from man utd and England when he retires...
'If' that happens, then if thats not a world class career I don't what is.

Have to agree with young bale, Rooney does it season in, season out and breaks records left right and centre. Obviously not in the same bracket as messi and Ronnie but would def get in a world select squad.

I agree with Paul here.
Ronaldo and Messi are out on there own. But Rooney falls into the next category IMO. Tho I do believe fergie is trying to mould him into a scholes roll at united.

Have to agree with Dowie here. Messi and Ronaldo definately out on their own - but Rooney is World Class and falls just below Messi and Ronaldo IMO. His work rate and natural ability are just awesome. Definately does look like Fergie is trying to mould him into a "Scholes-esque" type of player, and if it happens (which I think it will), it will only show Rooneys versatility as well!!
