Are they worth getting and what's the best one to get etc?
Would they be wasted on a kid?

Some job pele. Don't think there is much difference in the "new" iPad and the iPad 2 except the 70 quid price difference.
They can be used for most ages, all depends on what apps you download. The forum app is good.

Go for a tablet which is android. You will access all the same apps and ticks all the other boxes. You'll pick one up on ebay for about a ton for something half decent
