For the second time in a month we have failed to field a team and had to call off two games. On top of that we played against Glenarm with loads of players missing and were slaughtered 5-1. We need signings and we need new players at the club. There does not seem to be any on the horizon so where is this gonna end up? There are people coming to me already with rumours that the club is close to folding, this isn't a financial issue, it is fielding a team issue, it is caused by a failure to sign new players. There on Saturday we played Michelin, I looked round me and there were 3/4 new players added to that team this season, players who helped move the club forward, they came up through the play offs and fair play to them, we came up as back to back champions, winners, who doesnt want to be part of something like that and who doesnt want to play for a team like that, making signings should be easy, so why have we not made any and why are we not likely to make any?

Agree Rab - Westend seem to have everything in place to do well and after the last two seasons with the success you's have had i'd of thought getting fresh players would of been easy enough. Have players been approached? Are they just turning you's down? Maybe need to get a scouting network up and running

Some clubs think 'we are champions, people will want to play for us', others say 'we are champions but we need to strengthen' Sounds like Westend may be the former. If its asking people and they're turning you down, not a lot you can do about it. Or it could be a case of a group of mates playing together and not wanting to have to drop a mate for an outsider so no new signings were approached. That will end in Div 3 football once again.

Looking at it from the outside, perhaps players think that you have been playing consistently well for 2 years, it may be hard to break into a winning team

To be fair we have tried quite a few players but it's been difficult to get them in. At start of the season I said we needed 2/3 in that were better than what we had but that didn't happen. For me living in belfast I don't really see people in ballymena either. Fair enough we've failed to field a team twice but it's not through lack of a squad it's down to the large number of injuries we've had and this weekend we've 4 guys away which doesn't help. Hopefully we'll get new blood in but for a team that hadn't added since last season we could quite easily finish 4th!

If you are struggling for numbers now the midweeks will be a bitch Go for club fans. Pele, the BSML one, was quoted once as saying, 'After ASOB. Broadway, Penarol and several other teams. Westend is the first result I look for'

I think there are players in the 2nd division who want to play in the 1st division, look at Mott recently moving, great player. I think we need to be knocking on doors and ringing boys and trying harder to get them to join, we also need someone that can go and scout games for potential players, we need to get that system set up as we have never to my knowledge done anything like that. As you know we play our games at the same time on a saturday morning so it has to be someone who isnt playing or the manager. I know we have identified areas last season that we needed to strengthen but we didnt do that and now we are paying the price for this, injuries or not, we knew what was needed yet it failed to happen.

I'm not sure that too many teams have somebody who scouts (missing their own match),think its more a case of noticing players when you go to watch if your game is off....think word of mouth, and friend-of-a-friend still plays an important part in the BSML too

I was talking to a very successful BMSL manager there Donko and he says that is what they do, they have someone who goes and watches other teams games, he says it aint easy, you have to ring and knock on doors, but there are players out there in the 2nd div that are good enough for the first and who would love to be playing in the first

I don't think it's just Westend Rab, it's very difficult to get players in. Especially after winning back to back titles i guess the players you would be looking at are one's that are better than you have already. I've seen you's training down in Randalstown and there's always plenty of numbers down so obviously there's a good spirit there. I'm sure a well run club like Westend will be fine! Ps no point scouting our game, Skyblues nicked all our players LOL

We used to book 2 courts out in randalstown matt, but now we only use one court, numbers have been fading no harm to you but that's bo**ocks. We may have had 2 pitches before but we rarely needed them. You pay for the lights at randalstown not the pitches so if there was 2 free we could use it. When you train twice a week you'll never get everyone out both nights!

Toffeeman, i think Rab is just genuinely concerned for the club and wants to see us do well. We all know we need a handful of new players. I think this post should have just been an open advert for interested players to contact us and nothing more.

Fella's, at the start of the season at least 6 players had been approached they turned us down, 4 of them thought they were too good for the bsml and are struggling to play for there respective clubs. 1 went to a seemingly better club than us in the 1st. The other might be dead not sure but doesn't reply to msgs or answers his phone. So as a westend player it's extremely hard to attract players. But if anyone one on here fancies a run out for us pm me or any other westend guys on here. Except rab!!!!

Was that Rab's way of saying good bye?? take a dig at the team. Must not have a computer in London, how on earth is he getting on with his life without the BSML forum!
Rab... you can still do the pre match build ups if you like.
