As the forums are quiet at the minute i think this could make a good thread way some funny storys. So many Characters have played Bsml or just been involved way clubs so post them here and a funny or memorable tale about them. I will have a think about some and post later

A man of many talents is our Sherman

Maybe not a legend of BSML but defintately a legend of Demense- step forward Sammy Miller. He's not a funny type of legend, just a proper legend who we played with at Demense.
No doubt this guy was the nicest guy you would ever meet in the world, serioulsy he makes Mother Theresa look like Fred West.
Countless stories about him but my favourite I heard about him was one night he was doing a bit of late night shopping in the fairhill, everywhere was closed and the cleaners were out in force getting everything ready for the next day. Anyway aul Sammy was walking past HMV and seen a cleaner struggling with her work, so good old Sammy walked in grabbed the mop and bucket and spent the rest of the evening helping this wee old doll he'd never seen before clean the fairhill! Sammy Miller- legend!

Another one of the old guard from Broadway Peter 'Birdie' O'Brien the silverfox was some goalscorer i remember playing a few games for Broadway when i was about 18 and him scoring thunderbolts A few facts about Birdie- Had to go to Belfast to buy his boots because he hit the ball so hard the boots in Ballymena just bust. Had to wear shinguards front and back as he was so good the defenders were always out to do him down his achilles. Would't pass the ball to wee Kenny Neilly when they were going for topscorer at Broadway. Definatly a legend birdie

This is one I was told about my da and John Herron that played for Ballymena.
My da had gathered up a good side at Clough at the time and John Herron was doing sub.
John's father appeared at the match and says "Jimmy whys our John not playing?" Things weren't going so well for Clough this particular day. My da turns and says to Johns dad " too be totally honest with you because he's f**king hopeless"
A few years later John was holding aloft the Irish cup!! Great judge of a player!! ;D ;D

Great thread.
Maybe not a legend in terms of playing bsml (super sub wouldn't be in it) but for a story i feel he derves a mention. Was actually quite a legend on here too...
A lad called eugene Maxwell graced many a saturday morning on the sideline of waveney swifts. He didn't get much action (except the time he went to santa ponsa and inadvertently faced a tranny ) so he wasn't well used to taking tactical instruction. Not his fault i hear you say and i have to agree. This was no more evident than the morning a waveney starlet got injured during a fiesty affair down the doury rd caused by the opposition number 8. As the normally unused and vastly inexperienced maxi prepared to enter the battle a very worked up member of the waveney coaching staff yelled 'maxi, get on there and put yer toe up that number 8s hole'. The man thought no more of his hypothetical request but watched in disbelief as the mentioned maxi made a bee line straight for the number 8 and give him a good old fashioned off the ball bootin and starting a ruckus before taking his usual position in the sanctity of the sideline with his beloved club down to 10 men.
If that doesn't merit a place on this thread then it should be renamed non legends!
Hail maxi.

A man of many talents is our Sherman I agree Pele, Sherman is indeed one talented individual. Only a few weeks ago the great man himself told me he was the best player to ever grace the BSML! In fact I remember him talking himself into a trial at Dundee FC. They must have been really fond of him because I also remember him returning with loads of track suits and boots (all different sizes and for sale) in his bag. Alas, his music career has not been a total success as his former band "Avery Smartcat & the Groovy Super Heroes" disbanded after a only a few short weeks of an unsuccessful tour of McQ's pub. Last I heard he was a member of the Slemish Players and was producing a play!

GREAT THREAD I MUST SAY! Well i wouldnt like to throw a certain EDWARD GREER in to the hat. there is without doubt no man that has trained as much over the last ten years to play so few minutes. i actually remember him doing sub one day when his team had only 10 players to select from.lol God help the creator.

Shores very own legend - Mickey Quinn was caught in the act last week - he had dumped 62 year old Doris a few months back and is now going with her mate (57) - so Doris decided to surprise him last week, walked in to Mickeys flat and caught mickey rifling her mate!!!
He also had a 3some with them at the start of the year - not bad for a 67 year old - just wonder what he did with his crutch

There are quite a few legends to grace the bsml.
I have a couple of legends that influenced me... Fergie McKelvey who layed for Moylena in the early 80's.
Fergie was a Wolves school boy...when Wolves were up there. He obviously didnt make that. He played for Chimney Corner under Armstrong Becket. I remember him as a young man running on his own. I always remember a noise when he ran....a shuffleing noise. I had no clue what it was until someone told me that he ran with a bin bag under his kit to loose weight.
Well of course I tried that but all it did was cause chaffing under my arms....lol and I still was fat.
Played with top players.....Mickey Hodkinson......cross when he look right and I wasnt there for him to pass to.
Glynn Carson......felt so safe when anyone threatened you....his look was enought to sort anyone...lol
Love this thread but unfortunately Im at an age were most of the members dont know the legends I know....grrrrrrrrr f**k im old

a few years ago we were playing up at kilroot in junior shield. Because it was an afternoon match mickey was rubbered. He stood for 10 mins watching the wrong match, shouting 'come on the shore' then realised it wasnt us, turned to look for us and fell down the hill.

I think two more that are definately worthy of legendary Bsml status are the White brothers John & Finlay from FC Penarol. Both great players in there day and John also won the Bsml POTY in the 70's aswell as playing for BUFC for a period but got a few bad knee injuries that finished him in the Irish League, John went on to manage Penarol in the 80's and 90's when they were one of the most successful Bsml sides always fighting it out for the honours. Finlay overtook the Managers job and i have to say was a brilliant Manager although not one to go mad or shout in the changing rooms always had the respect of the players and attention to detail was second to none, It was great to be a part of the clubs most successful times by winning a few cups and Division 2 & Division 1 back to back with Finlay being in charge(First time in over 20 years i believe) It was very sad to see the club go into freefall but again Fin and John never gave up along way the other great people at Penarol and now looks as if they have steadied the ship and big Junior is doing a great job and hopefully can gain promotion this season. The thing i always liked about Penarol was the way club treated there players just small things but they really counted to me anyway, Kits were always hanged up on pegs for you coming in, Fresh towels waiting on you for showers, Always paid first Physio bill if injured that type of stuff, I think this was all John & Finlay's idea. So they you go lads the White brothers - Legends
