Was listening to the Joe Montgomery Show (Stephen Nolan ;D) yesterday and they interviewed the wee cove who is close to death after binge drinking and trying to get the rule changed about 6 month non alcohol intake before you can be considered. He was doing really well and a serious campaign was under way to do the unlikely and change the rule on his behalf... He was on saying how he will never have a drink again, it was a one off etc etc. He even denied that he himself had posted on his Bebo about his drinking sprees. Then what does he do after the Nolan Show? ?? Leave the hospital and go for a pint!!!!! lol.....

My thoughts too Pele. I was being convinced through the week there about the rule as a whole maybe being too closed to debate considering it's in place for alcoholics who have abused their bodies for years and years. I had listened to the wee lad on the radio yesterday saying how he regretted it, it was a one off, peer pressure etc etc and thought maybe there should be exceptions for someone of a young age, just my opinion, but then I hear this today about him leaving the hospital and going to the Moat (across from the Ulster Hospital) and having a pint!!! Unreal!!!!! A wee lad of about 20 odd was allowed to die a month or two ago under similar circumstances in England. Really think in light of todays story, any hope the lad had of being saved is gone!!!

I think it's amazing how the young lad can give an interview on the Nolan show from his hospital bed at 'Kings College LONDON' and manage to try and get a pint in the Moat bar in DUNDONALD afterwards! That's the Sun for you.

I too have been listneing to the show and Stevie he went for a pint last Wednesday the day before the story broke on the Nolan show. If I heard his dad right last week he said on thursday that his son didnt know he was dying and that they couldnt bare to tell him then today his da is on saying his son knew he was dying and his head is going and he doesnt know what he is doing etc etc... fooking bollox lol. His mum was on and said her wee son this and her wee son that and that he was stupid lmfao the wee f**ker drunk 30 pints over 3 days...yes 30 pints.
Now I used to love a drink and by god I drunk quite a bit but at no stage did my liver pack in lol when I heard the story break on Thursday I text Nolan and told him to wise up that the wee lad has to be drinking the bit out and then today the suns leads with the story... Gareth walked into the moat bar dundonald with his needle still in his arm and his slippers on and asked for a pint he was refused it and instead took a coke.
He deserves f**k all and theres countless others waiting on transplants who deserve it more than him.
Rant over

I dont want to see anyone dying or anything like I aint the grim reaper lol but there are others out there who are def more worthy of a transplant and people with hepitius who maybe never have drunk in their lives could die because of the Stephen Nolan show who made a big issue out of this young lad. As I said i used to love a southern comfort and Ice but no-one can tell me that his damage was done in just them 3 days as Im sure like me theres a few on here who go on benders like that quite regular, truth is this wee lad has been drinking like this prob for years and its caught up with him... the 6 month rule is there for a reason and I dont think that just because a radio show gets behind a story that others get f**ked over

That's the Sun for you. Ok sorry, maybe there was a bit of confusion as to the EXACT time of the of the stories happening but the facts are that the lad was in the hospital in Dundonald knowing his Liver had failed due to drink and he was fighting for his life. Obviously the first interview with Nolan the story hadn't been released and when it broke the following day people, myself included, assumed it had taken place afterwards as it wasn't mentioned the day before. Fact is, the lad knew the situation and still went for a drink, his father has admitted the claims and is now saying that it's impossible to put yourself in the lads shoes etc. This happened, regardless of the order it happened, the point being, this has seriously dented any already slim hopes of intervention and only has himself to blame.

I know the facts Fish but was merely pointing out how much of a sh*t paper the Sun is. It seems on the surface of it all now that there has been some serious covers ups to try and get the wee lad seen to. Can't blame the parents for trying to save their son, but I agree that there are more deserving donor recipients out there. I had a family member who was an alcoholic and had to wait the 6 months to be dry and then go on the waiting list. Eventually he got the liver but unfortunately he hit the drink again and it killed him ultimately. I can understand how some people would be pissed off about that but he did do all that was required to get on the waiting list. I wonder how many people are registered organ donors on these forums?!
