Pre-Season Report 2008/09
Training resumed on Saturday 5th July 2008 at Wakehurst and continues w/c 4th August on Mon & Wed at Wakehurst (6:45 pm). All welcome.
The first pre-season game was v Castle Rangers (Saturday 26th July) at Wakehurst and finished 2-1 to the away side.
Preparations continued last Wednesday (30th July) with a game against a strong FC Ballynure side who are making their debut this season in the Ballymena Intermediate League. Final score Demesne 0-7 FC Ballynure.
The last scheduled pre-season game v FC Ballynure's reserves began in farcical fashion at Mallusk where an booking error meant that the only pitch available was of the Gaelic variety. It was decided that the teams play 13 a side. In a tightly contested match fitness levels were very much tested and a flurry of late goals meant that FC Ballynure eventually ran out winners 5-1.

disappointed that we didnt get at least a point against Inver last night. 2-2 with about 5 minutes left and our keeper let in a very soft goal

yous have improved although your keeper let yous down a bit as invers first 2 were very soft although inver had 6 changes to lineup from saturdays interstars game its no excuse and a draw would have been a fair result

Draw prob would have been a decent reflection on how the game went.
Truth be told though, we made mistakes in every position - maybe not fair to single out anyone for particular criticism... We lose together - we (soon) win together. It didn't help when I took our keeper out thanks to a shove in the back (ref didn't spot that one either). Plenty of positives.

that ref never spots much. on sat inver striker knocked ball by interstars defender then drilled it into net he ruled it out for offside

Overall a good performance. Individual mistakes cost us, but that has been the story of the past few seasons.
There were a lot of positives, Connaire Agnew had some great chances to score, Steven Watson was very solid in defence. Johnny Fulton didn't have his best game, but I think he showed that he will be good for us given a bit more time.
Some very winnable games coming up if we play well, no disrespect to the teams involved.

I have to add my best wishes to Demense for the season. I had a lot of pity for you lot with the hammerings and the like. I was at the match Vs Lisnafillan at the tale end of last season and although the Swifts won i think 4 or 5-1, i didn't think that scoreline was a true reflection of the game. A bit more creativity in the final 3rd of the pitch and it'd have been a tighter contest. So far from what i am hearing there has been a lot of improvements and some results have been respectable regardless of defeat. I'll be keeping an eye on the results over the rest of the season and cheering you on even though i'm turning out for Steadfast. For the players that were involved in those hammerings that are perhaps still there, they deserve credit for perseverance and the will to put it right. As for Arthur, i don't know him that well, just from a few meetings when he ran the U16 league when i co-ran Broughshane, but the guy deserves credit for sticking at it as many would give up after a few heavy defeats. Mind you, Arthur wearing that shirt and tie with tracksuit bottoms is a definate fashion disaster! He really does need Trinny and Susannah
