Alot of fans thought leeds would be in a dog fight last year bremner and surpassed many a persons expectations, including myself. I think it is completely unrealistic to even think were leeds will finish next season because they are one of the most unpredictable teams around (i.e. they beat united at old trafford last year and sitting comfortably at the top of league 1 then completely spiral and secure automatic promotion to the championship on the last day of the season). They need some signings, even loan deals id be happy with and bates has come out today and said they are in "serious" negotiations with transfer targets...whether its just to keep us fans happy for a while it remains to be seen but give me ken over that plonker risdale anyday, i loathe the very sight of him! 5-6 years ago any leeds fan would have settled for our current situation albeit we are not in the premier league, but from a financial point of view as we were sitting 80-90 million in the red. Dont get me wrong here Don. I think we are well on the way to getting back to the premier league. We are one of the top 10 clubs in the county. Plus Bates has def steadied the ship. But he is waiting on some big hot shot to give him millions for the club. Leeds have some great players, but need some extra quality to gain promotion.....and you have to pay to get quality. Marching on together..... ;D

Completely agree with you brem, i just have a real loathing for risdale and the state he left us in compared to the way we are today i wouldn't it swop it for anything at the minute. We do need some players in, no doubt about it, and they have to be quality to get us that bit further, but being as realistic as i can be i think championship football will be our mainstay for a few seasons yet as big ken wont dip into his pocket. I do believe our team is good enough, just not consistent enough to be a top team in their current league, but after the handling of kasper (a complete disgrace IMO) i fear our best players could be sold on within the next 2 years or so and that is going to stop us getting back to where we belong. I can see us surprising a few this year again and making the play-offs. Your quite right though...marching on together...

Have to admire the optimism lads but I am firmly in the anti-Bates group.
The Kasper situation disgusted me, especially considering the same day a story was "leaked" that Leeds wanted Woody, Bowyer & Smith back. That to me was a case of he's a sellable asset so get rid & then we can say the deal for those guys fell through at a later date.
They're even starting the prep work for Becchio's exit too now with Larry saying he fully expects the squad to remain but would accept bids that met valuations. That to me is a thinly veiled "he's on the market."
We sold our first choice gk for peanuts & imo he was a keeper who long term could be prem league class & so far we have signed a guy who conceded 9 in his 3 appearances last year & appear to now be looking at Lonergan who got dropped in a team that got relegated. Warning bells there.
Johnson and Kilkenny look like being mistakes too. Johnson in particular was class last year yet they were allowed to leave for nothing. In fairness Johnson had eyes on a move but to me he was a player you make him stay through a very good contract.
I'll be delighted to take this all back if Bates shows some ambition in the transfers but I'd be amazed if he does. We were 7th last year & all our rivals made a move midseason which ultimately took them above us & we just stood still. Sadly I expect more of the same.

Sadly I expect more of the same. maccers....not a great fan of Bates either but he has got the club back in a sound financial footing. Schmichael was sold because he had the worst goals against stat in the championship last season. He apparently wanted a massive pay rise as he had been selected for the Danish squad and was viewed by television as an excellent keeper. His 2 year contract was not long enough for me so they decided to sell in case he went on a free. Woodgate, Bowyer and Smith for me would take the club backwards and I dont think it will happen. I would sell Becchio as I dont think he prolific enough. I would take 3m for him no problem. Johnston was left footed, but average. Kilkenny was a great wee player and I would have kept him....he went to Bristol City ffs. Apparently Bates has massive loan commitments and the club have to remain in profit for 5 year to accomodate the loans. Past 2 seasons, the club has been in profit and, to remain there, they have to spend f**k all. With money being spent by clubs in the championship, and if we dont do the same, then we will struggle to achieve the playoffs. But as a supporter, I will be shouting for them to win the league. Plus will get over again this season to cheer the mighty Leeds on. Leeds Leeds Leeds....
