Lads just thought Id start a sensible thread with no silly comments on everyones opinion with players switching from northern Ireland to republic of Ireland.
We won't get any were arguing about British Irish s**t but my own opinion is that if u play for northern Ireland at u21 level or above in any game friendly or not ur choice is made. Don't really think it's fair that players go through the ranks at ni and then move to republic.
Not trying to start a row here just wondering wat everyone else thinks.

i think if a player doesnt want to play for a certain country, f**k them..why would u want a player who doesnt wanna be there.

Sadly Dave I expect nothing but a row on such a subject no matter how many good intentions are involved....been around here long enough to know where we can debate sensibly and where we can't....things that divide us politically and/or religiously get out of hand pretty quick.
Sad but true IMO.

If you dont have the passion to play for your country you can f**k away off. Hope not even 1 of them ever gets near being a regular for ROI.

2 young boys. Shane Ferguson and Daniel Devine. On a brighter note, young josh carson is in the ni squad for the republic game.

What about Barton, has played for NI in a friendly, but wont play competitive, rumoured to be in running for RoI squads too, but wants to play for England.... now that is a joke

Totally agree with u here fellas but my problem is that alot of time and money is being spent by the ifa on these players who some are going as far as playing friendlys or the senior team before choosing to play forthe republic and in some cases even captain the u21s in duffys case.

Agree with ye again but AFAIK it all started in the Good Friday agreement and has been backed again and again by FIFA. Tell ye one thing, if they ever came back with their tail between their legs saying they wanted another go cause they couldnt get in the NI set up Id tell them where to go. Might be mistaken but Im nearly sure Tony Kane of Cliftonville (formerly of Blackburn) done that. Started off at N.Ireland, went to ROI changed his mind again then rejoined the N.I. set up

Think he got called up for the last ROI friendly but as you say Donks wont play a competitive game incase England want him. Cnut.

Did fifa not make a ruling on this a while back, thought i read something about this before. What was decided? I can understand the frustration if players switch and the money has been spent on them but its there choice and they have there own reasons.

Lads I know some people have personal reasons I.e. Classing themselves as Irish citizens as such and that's a debate for a different forum so we won't go into that but if that is their reasons which I'm sure most if us will agree it probably is surely the decision should be made earlier and maybe get a call-up to the ROI youth teams it seems to me that ni are doing all the hard work with the young boys and the ROI are picking and choosing certain ones.

Totally agree Lenny he should be playing I think worthys excuse is he needs to be a harder worker to get into the team and it's not all about his skill. Which I think Is balls he has Davis and countless others who will run all day.

He does need more 1st team football at club level also. But yes he does need a good run of games for us. Don't think he will jack it in as if nothing else he has alot if support from the real NI fans.
