SAMMY MOORE TROPHY
St Comgalls 2, Cloughmills Thistle 0: St Comgall's secured their first trophy as a Saturday Morning League club with a comfortable win in the Final of the Clough Glasgow Rangers Supporters Club sponsored Sammy Moore Trophy.
Cloughmills had the first chance of the game with a 25 yard free kick by Brian Neill that was easily saved by Saints keeper Michael McCambridge. After that, it was all St. Comgall's with striker David Ferguson heading just over the bar when well placed. Several minutes later David Ferguson was denied by an excellent save from close range by the Thistle keeper Richard Aitcheson after breaking through the defence.
In the second half, Saints keeper Michael McCambridge pulled off a magnificent save from a well hit volley from Chris McDonald from the edge of the box.
Saints finally got their goal after 20mins into the second half from David Ferguson after he broke free from the Cloughmills defence and slotted it in at the near post.
Ten minutes later the Saints were 2-0 with striker Mark McClean securing the win with a one-on-one with the keeper hitting it in at the near post.
St Comgall's had other chances to make the score more emphatic with Captain Gary McCorry hitting just wide after a great run from the midfield and substitute Aaron Martin hitting a 30 yard volley just wide in the dying minutes of the game as Saints continued to over run a dejected Thistle side.
After the final whistle Raymond Atcheson, on behalf of sponsors Clough Glasgow Rangers Supporters Club, handed over the Sammy Moore Trophy to jubilant St. Comgalls Captain Gary McCorry.
