I was gonna knock it all in the head in the summer but it's hard to stay away, especially with a few of my good mates there as you know so I just help out when I can. In a perfect world id love to be back playing and im hoping there's a slight chance i might be able to, need to lose a few stone therefore having a free use of gym is also worth hanging around for ;D I can't stress it enough just how difficult I found it to lose weight. After an op in Jan 2009 where I was unable to train for almost 5 months for bones to heal, I rocketed up the weight in months, accompanied by the fact I received a claim and ate like a pig for the duration lol!! When I went for the op I weighed around 12 stone...I reported for Broadway's pre season at the end of June at a ridiculous 15 (or very slightly under it). Disgraceful!! I battled for years, not missing trainings and at that time even holding down a first team place in the early months of the season where we went on to be champions before picking up a knee injury that kept me out for another 3 months. When you're carrying a lot of weight I found I picked up more injuries, probably because yer body isn't used to it and yer doing too much because yer so far behind. I bit the bullet last May or June and joined Slimming World. I had a redner walking in to use the scales etc when it's mostly all women at it, it wasn't easy but by f**k it worked!! The first week I lost half a stone...within a month I was down a stone. It will get you down the scales and give you something to work with but as with everything else it's up to you to stay there or build on it. I honestly couldn't stress enough how helpful this was in my own battle. I don't go anymore but try to stick to it at home and have adapted to it as a lifestyle change. Make no mistake I'll have to odd day where I'll eat a pizza or a load of chocolate etc but in general it's a basis to stick to. I know another member on here who had similar success with Weight Watchers (I'll not name him as we talked in confidence) so either one would certainly be worth looking into!!! Fair play and well done fish!! Thats some going mate. i could prob do with this to lose this soda hole of mine afew members of my family have done it. An they cooked me afew of the slimming world meals and surprisingly i found them nicer then the normal dish i wud been use to.

good words. i've started a diet every monday in 2012 & failed miserably so far.
haven't played football in 11 years. 27 now & wanted to have one last try at playing.
my most recent attempt started last monday & i actually lost 8 lbs in my first week but i'd a fry this morning & 2 bottles of coke already today so looks like this one will die on its arse too.
done most if the training last year with carnlough & the brain was playing a good game but the legs & body were just telling me to wise up.
good luck to you's. it's far from easy.

Superb and very honest post Fish!! It's very hard to lose the weight, and just as hard to keep it off if, like myself, you struggle with your weight!! My missus took up that slimming world stuff there a while back and it's quality - would recommend anyone who is looking to lose weight to try it out!! The food is actually really nice!! Big Stan (previously of Lisnafillan) has lost about 5 stone on it so fair play!!

Sorry Rubberfeatures, just offering some inspiration to yer striken goalie and proving to him that there are ways out there to help him overcome the problems holding him back...again, my apologies. Sorry for interupting the celebrations of this landmark result!!
